Inspiration from nature

It’s only just starting to feel like summer in Brisbane (we’re bracing for 32+ degrees Celsius this week) and already I’m pining for autumn. The weather seems to have been confusing our camphor laurel tree lately and it’s been shedding the most beautiful leaves.

I’ve been doing a bit of research and the camphor laurel is the official tree of many cities in Japan – apparently there’s even one that survived the bombing of Hiroshima and although they can grow into massive trees they are popular for bonsai too. Our local authorities in Brisbane think otherwise and classify it as a weed. I just love its colours and the sound of the breeze rustling through its leaves. Unfortunately the fallen leaves turn brown by the next day… so I’ve been trying to think of a way to immortalise them – maybe a woollen necklace with crocheted or fabric leaves sewn onto it?

These leaves are definitely beautiful. I can’t believe the tree is classified as a weed. Looking forward to seeing what it inspires!
