A beautiful discovery

The most exciting discovery on our trip to Melbourne last weekend was a textile artist whose work I stumbled upon at the Rose Street Artist Market at Fitzroy. Carla Dawes – who works under the title Bubbles at the Head – is actually from Mullumbimby in New South Wales, but sells her amazing embroidered pieces in Melbourne via Sheridan Jones of The Laundry Room Press and Studio (whose printmaking and paper taxidermy is definitely worth checking out too). I wanted to buy several of her brooches but unfortunately had to stick to my ‘Melbourne on a budget’ plan. Sigh…
