Pushing the boundaries

There are times when you come across people whose work is inspirational… and times when those people are so stupendously talented that you wonder why you’re doing what you’re doing! It was a case of a bit of column A and a bit of column B when I came across this embroidery book.

Push Stitchery has some of the best examples of modern embroidery that I’ve ever seen – both in terms of technique and imagery. It’s curated by Jamie Chalmers – aka Mr X Stitch – and features some AMAZING works by the likes of Charlene Mullen (cityscapes in blackwork, among other delights), Penny Nickels (love her embroidered stamps), Meagan Ileana (beautifully simple images and bright colours) and Gillian Bates (look out for the beach huts!). The list goes on…

Push Stitchery is published by Lark Crafts – uh oh, another website with free project downloads! Definitely one for the wish list… if you don’t have this book already!
