Stories from the city, stories from the sea

Another cushion for the market this weekend – my Norwegian whale stamp one!

Somehow in all my busy-ness I’ve managed to pop by the Queensland Art Gallery and check out the Quilts exhibition, which I can highly recommend. The exhibition includes more than 50 quilts, coverlets and sewing accessories. My favourites were the Sanderson Star quilt, an extraordinarily heavy-looking quilt purportedly made by a soldier that was comprised of thousands of tiny hexagons of Melton wool and of course the Rajah quilt, which was made by female convicts on their way to the penal colony in Tasmania in 1841. Well worth a look!
