Small pleasures

We know it’s winter when this wattle tree flowers. And right on cue, after the westerly winds blew every last remnant of cloud away to leave a perfectly blue sky, out popped these beautiful flowers – like a sprinkling of bright yellow French knots on blue linen!

Walking past this tree in full bloom on my way to work each day is one of the small pleasures in life… Aside from being an indelibly Australian image, it only happens once a year and this tree only flowers for a couple of weeks, so I make sure I take the time to stop and breathe in the heavy scent while it lasts.
