An unexpected treat

When I dropped by Paper Boat Press gallery/shop at Ashgrove on Saturday to see their current Japanese ceramics exhibition, I was excited to find that I’d timed my visit so I could go to a nearby Japanese shop for the first time. Mizuki’s Silk has limited opening hours (10am to 12.30pm except Sundays) and it’s worth making the effort to arrive within that window – not only for the beautiful handmade fabric and paper-based treasures, but also to meet their delightful designer Ayako Mizuki. After a fun few moments talking about Japanese fabric, I came away with these pretty silk-covered buttons in a little pouch.
