Saturday Special: Simplicity 5884
More skirts for this week’s pattern pick, this time from 1965. I think I’d like a little green one just like View 4.
Skirts – 5 different styles: Dart-fitted skirts have side zipper closings and waistbands. V1 front has top-stitched pleats. V2 has an inverted center front pleat. V3 has inverted pleats at side front seams. Slim skirt V4 has back slit and underlay. V5 front has two box pleats.

This beauty is from 1965 – can you believe that’s 50 years ago?! Since it’s come over all summery this week, can I have one of each please?
Misses’ set of skirts: All views have waistband and side zipper. V1 is circular. V2 is semi-circular. Slightly flared, bias cut. V3 has optional purchased belt.

Circa 1965 it was all about the A-line and I love the way this shaping is achieved in this pattern through clean lines and that distinctive triangular front piece.
One-piece dress: A-line dress with inverted V-seaming in front, slightly fitted through waist. (A) Long sleeved dress with contrast detachable collar and cuffs. (B) Sleeveless dress with centre front neckline slit.

I’m loving this circa 1965 frock! View A with contrasting top-stitching has my name written all over it!

Today’s gorgeous frock was featured in Vogue Pattern Fashion News in February 1965. What a stunner!
One-piece evening dress. Natural waistline dress has blouson bodice, attached to camisole, with bias front and wide draped neckline. Slim skirt gathers slightly at waist. Contrast bias belt with attached bias tie or self tie belt. Version A planned for chiffon over crepe.

Here’s a quirky little skirt from 1965. I like the A-line version (View B in yellow on the pattern sleeve) and I can just see it with some contrasting piping along those front and back panels. Yet another one for the to-do list…

A pattern from the Swinging Sixties today – I love the keyhole neckline on this A-line dress. Aside from some facing pieces, it really does only have two main pieces so it would be a cinch to make too!

I do love a well made shift dress and there are a few to choose from here. This 1965 pattern is in pristine condition and has never been cut! I think View 4 would be stunning in raw silk (or a fabric woven to look like raw silk – something with a nice sheen and slightly nubby texture) but I also think a couple of those collars would lend themselves to being adapted into detachable collar patterns (like View 3 or View 5).
